My Story

BERTARMS

I know what its like to have stress and uncertainty about your career take over life.

I am a first generation Haitian immigrant who grew up in a household with two career options. Either become a lawyer or a doctor. After I decided to stop living my parents dreams, I discovered my passion for business and entrepreneurship and decided to be a renegade. Typically this is the part of the movie where the credits roll in with some cheesy song announcing “happily ever after.” That’s Hollywood. In real life I was a senior who woke up one morning and realized that he blew his college career  taking pre-law classes to please his parents.

Because I had to make up so much ground to make up, I had to find ways to accelerate career success. I learned through fire what I want you to learn through wisdom. You can’t do it alone. Having the right mentors may be the single greatest advantange when pursuing success.

I learned through fire what I wan’t you to learn through wisdom

My stress and anxiety prolonged an illness I developed in 2006. I almost died in a Chicago Hospital. I spent Thanksgiving eating hospital food.

I’d love to say from that point I was on a crusade to help people like you find happy and fufilling careers. It’s not true. What that event did do was show me life was short and inspire me to live mine serving others. The passion and desire to launch success mentors built up gradually as I saw friend after friend endure setback after setback, and miss out career opportunities. I knew that I personally could never feel fufilled if I didn’t take my career to the next level. After enduring another round of misfortunes starting in late 2008 I decided enough!

I was tired of being stuck, and always feeling “almost successful.” I was tired of watching my friends go through the same cycle of hope and despair.

I had no choice but to study how people achieve.

I dedicated hundreds of hours interviewing different professionals in fortune 500 companies, startups, and small to medium sized companies. Those who were doing well had something in common. They all had mentors. Not  just any mentors, success mentors-those people who can magnify your ability to attract wealth, prosperity, and success. I thought that if I could raise the visibility of the power of mentoring for my generation than my time here was well spent.

I’ll be honest with you, I had three month period at the beginning of this year where I endured several personal and professional tragedies-The death and incaceration of two good college friends, losing a key customer in my business, witnessing a good buddy get laid off, and a close family member getting sick. These events reminded me of my  focus on giving back. These events reminded me of how lucky I was to have the best success mentors during my toughest transitions.

My journey taught me many lessons which can make a powerful difference in your life and your career. This is why I started this blog. I hope you get something valuable from this information and don’t hesistate to email me with questions. I will reply personally. Email: thementorguy@gmail.com
